South Ferry Pano
I hadn’t been to South Ferry in years so went there recently to satisfy my curiosity. Lots of construction, of course, following the storms. Hard to walk around with all the barriers and holes. The day was bright and sunny, however, and there was Brooklyn […]
Golden Oldie
I ran across this picture of Maggie marching in the Berkeley band and couldn’t resist posting it here.
Sea Monster Attacks NY Harbor
As if the cruise ship industry didn’t have enough problems, this strange red creature tried to take a bite out of a docked cruise ship in New York Harbor this morning.
West Side School
An interesting feature of Trump Place, on the Hudson behind Lincoln Center, is an emersion-Chinese preschool. Makes a lot of sense when you stop to think about it.
The Fascination of Birds Feeding
Glenda keeps a bird feeder on our patio filled all winter. It is mesmerizing to see the birds flock to it. Getting close enough for a good shot is a challenge. I’ve decided that just inside the patio door is best. It means shooting through […]
More Guest Photographers
Over the past several days I’ve been adding photo pages here to show off the photography of my daughters and grandchildren. You’ll find them under the menu item “Family Stuff.” I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Maybe I can make regular […]
B/W Birds
The bulk of the birds that feed at our backyard feeder are colored black and white and the deep snow accentuates the look.
Sometimes You Just Get Lucky
You never know what you’ll stumble into in the Zambezi Estuary. Best to be ready and have the camera cocked.
Posted from iPad
This was an experiment to see if I could post from my iPad. Apparently so.

Croc in Cooperstown
Cooperstown, NY, is famous for both the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Glimmerglass Opera (among other things). Last summer I spotted this crocodile on the bank of Lake Otsego, behind the Otasego Inn.
Featured Guest
My grandson Kevin Rast has generously agreed to share some of his pictures with us. He has recently returned from a Disney Fantasy Cruise with his family. More shots from Kevin here.
Butterfly
I took this last summer with my then new Sony NEX7 with an 18-200mm zoom lens.
A Mighty Midget Shooter
This is remains of the crane atop a 75-storey building in Manhattan after Hurricane Sandy went through last October. Nothing unusual about this photo except that it was taken at street level, a crosstown block away, with a Sony RX100 pocket camera. The shot was […]
Channeling Good Times
Today I am thinking a lot about England and most particularly East Sussex, where we’ve spent a lot of time over the years. Some day I hope to compile a gallery of my photos from there, but until then click here for a taste.
We’re Off!
After surprisingly little tinkering with WordPress, I have a new photo blog. The first project involves the birds frequenting our backyard feeder. A new snow makes this feeder especially popular today, and the sun is bight for the first time in several days. These were […]
